I have been talking about trends for a while now and on that topic we have seen activewear and streetwear dominating runways and wardrobes as of lately, but if you have been following close the autumn/winter 2019 collections from Paris and London you probably have noticed a new trend that’s been taken the world of fashion by storm, named 'bougie dressing', derived from the word bourgeoisie.
Which is pretty much 'rich girl dressing' who wears flawless, well tailored pieces like white jeans and daytime silk paired with a bouncy blowout and timeless staples like a silk blouse, a print scarf in a neutral tone, an oversized, boxy blazer, a leather belt with gold accents and knee-length leather boots. And add a subtle pearl earring for an extra bourgeois accent. In sum, it is all about highly wearable clothing and effortless elegance.
Seen at Burberry, where models wore knee-length pleated skirts, silk neck scarves and buttoned-up blouses, and a little at Victoria Beckham, both outstanding shows from London Fashion Week. However it was Celine who really embraced it with silk neck scarves, country check knee-length skirts, equestrian motifs, bespoke tailored blazers and long leather boots. Followed closely by Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga whose collection was extremely wearable, almost like an opposition to the sportswear collections of the last few seasons.
For me, it is not about a particular trend but a way of dressing that regardless of the length of time it will remain as a trend, it will eventually go back to its status of ‘Parisian chic’ way of dressing which many of us inspire to achieve anyway. Classic and effortlessly chic and above all pieces that we all already likely have in our closets!
